Celebrating 10,000 Views, and Making a Blog

Hey there! Welcome to the new thing. So as you're hearing from the title, this website has just passed 10k views. I estimate that the exact day it happened was on the 19th. Which is really exciting for me! This website isn't the prettiest looking site, at least in my opinion, but it's been a joy to build and update it with new info. And it's nice to see how warm the reception is - I'd say the reception to this site has been even warmer than Cruise Planet's. A wide range of people have seen it and complimented my bird pics, or checked out games from my mobile game recommendations list, which makes me real happy.

To celebrate, I'm starting a blog section for this place! I'm not sure how often I'll want to provide updates, but I feel like no personal site is complete without one, and having a place like this really gives me an opportunity to dive deep into whatever I want to talk about. Tumblr can also be used as a blogging site, but let's face it, that's not how most people use the site these days. Certainly not me! I'm busy shitposting!

The plan for it is pretty simple. I'll have a main page for snippets of all of my most recent blog posts, and you'll be able to click a read more button to read the full post. Once we get into the year 2025, I'll set up archive pages as well. I know a lot of blogs use a commenting system, but I don't currently have the web coding know-how to get that set up - maybe another time? No guarantees, though.

Since we're on the topic of the website, I'll also take a moment to talk about the rest of the site's agenda (tentative):

  1. Catching up with birding articles. I have around seven of them to do, which will take a moment to catch up on as I have to hand-pick what photos to showcase and then recall what happened on that day.
  2. Improving navigation. The way that you currently get from one page to another on the site is a bit limited, in that you have to scroll all the way up to the top to go back to the previous page after you're done reading. The simple fix is to add another link at the bottom of the page to return wherever applicable. I'm considering a sidebar, too.
  3. New mobile game recommendations. There are two lovely new games I've found, and would love to ramble about them. For those interested in what they are, it's my first time playing Monument Valley, and Does Not Commute is my new favorite mobile game.
  4. Cooler directories? I dunno, they feel bland the way they are. Particularly the home page and the portfolio page. I'd love to illustrate little images for each option, and array them in a grid...

Thank you for making 10k possible! It inspires me to do more.
