The Election Results
I didn't expect to go into politics so soon on this blog, but the times call for it. So, I am a United States citizen, and the election results came in. Kamala Harris lost. And Donald Trump won! Not just the presidency, too, the Republicans also took the Senate and are leading the race for the House as I write this. A Republican supermajority under Trumpism will be able to execute Project 2025 without resistance.
If anybody wants to keep the full document of Project 2025 on hand, I'll attach it here for convenience (you can trust me! it's just a PDF!): 2025_MandateForLeadership_FULL.pdf
The plan spells a lot of bad things for this country and I am in panic mode. I don't want my friends to die! I don't want the environment to be destroyed! And I'm not the only one panicking right now - just today I've seen maybe hundreds of people who all have that same sense of dread by looking online and talking to people in person. The only thing that helps for me to think about is that Project 2025 is like a wishlist - much like how Trump tried to get a border wall built in his last term, he faced a lot of difficulties actually getting that in place and the result was not like at all like planned.
It's not out of the question that there was some cheating behind the scenes when the votes were being counted. I'd expect there was some, since Trump had stated he feels like he has the right to. We have already seen Elon Musk's super PAC resorting to illegal methods to get people to vote, too, like offering anyone who voted Republican in Pennsylvania $100. I also suspect that people who planned to use mail-in ballots were disenfranchised. Me and one of my classmates I share an apartment complex with were both unable to find our absentee ballots in the mail, and I had checked every few days for the past month.
However, the level of the Republican victory shows that there was more than just cheating going on. I have a lot of ire for both the average Trump voter and the people who voted third party or chose not to vote at all. I had higher hopes for them, but the average voter in this country is just plain stupid - they don't have their priorities in check, and even the things they elected Trump for are not going to be given to them. As for those who voted third party or chose not to vote because they didn't like the government's involvement in the genocide in Palestine, good job - because now there's not going to be a Palestine soon.
I have been concerned about this race and what it may mean for at least the past six months, and it's terrible to see reality get that much closer to my nightmare. But I still urge people to not give up. That kind of despair is what the GOP feeds on. I ask everyone distraught by the news to take care of themselves and check on their loved ones tonight. And if you're vulnerable, come up with a plan to stay alive, whether that means fighting this mess or leaving the country. Please do whatever it takes.
