Highlander Trail, Weston, Massachusetts
The second of two birding trips I went on with my fiance during the 2022 summer period, Highlander is really just a random deep forest trail. We didn't see much in terms of birds or animals in general, so this will be short, but my fiance got some great references for studying and drawing plant life.
A handful of birds prefer only the most mature forests, like this brown creeper here. If you ever want a challenge, try looking for these kinds of birds, as many species are awfully cryptic and have the advantage of high canopies.
This isn't a bird, but evidence a bird was here... In particular, only a pileated woodpecker could drill these massive holes into a tree.
Alongside weird-looking trees, we saw a great deal of spider webs along the way, such as this one which somehow goes into the hole in the tree. The deep forest is also spider country.
